Pour hot and cold water into room temperature water in this simple, colorful experiment. Students learn how a mixture’s temperature impacts its density.

Materials:

  • 2 small clear plastic cups
  • Tablespoon
  • Ice water
  • Hot tap water
  • Food coloring (red and blue)
  • 2 eye droppers
